WORKSHOPS / LIVE WEBINARS IN AUGUST, SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER
Starting in August of this year we will provide 2 options for Carlsbad resident to participate in composting education. We are planning in advance for the unforeseeable future to make sure waste reduction and composting happens in Carlsbad. Here are the options:
1. In-person Composting Workshops - in the event normal social gatherings and interactions will return to normal and will be permitted by local, state and federal authorities. These workshops will follow recommended and/or mandated local, state and federal authorities best practices for social gatherings and interactions. These will be 3 hour workshops at different community garden locations in Carlsbad. They will also be streamed live online.
2. Online Live Webinars - in the event normal social gatherings and interactions will not be permitted in-person, the workshops' experience will be recreated via online live webinars.

Each composting workshop includes lecture style presentations, hands-on activities, informational handouts and the opportunity to purchase discounted composting bins and composting worms. The workshop content is approximatively 2 hours + 1 hour allotted for composting supplies distribution and additional questions.

INCENTIVES FOR RESTAURANTS TO REDUCE WASTE
City of Carlsbad is moving away from single-use plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery and styrofoam to-go containers to protect our oceans and shared environment. Starting April 2019 the City will implement a Pilot Program to assist restaurants, and other food and beverage service businesses, with the transition away from the sale and distribution of these items and reduce overall waste.
The Pilot Program will include:
- Free information and training on sources of alternative products and best waste reduction practices
- Free marketing materials to display at your business and inform your customers about your participation in this program
- Other incentives such as free alternative products and reduction of waste bills in the first month of your participation in the program
