This program aims to help restaurants, and other food service businesses, with the transition away from the distribution of single-use and disposable products with high environmental impact. The City of Carlsbad is moving away from single-use disposable products with high environmental impact such as plastic straws, stirrers, cutlery, plastic bags and styrofoam to-go containers to protect our environment and keep our beaches and oceans clean. The City’s Recycling Division is proactively assessing how to successfully implement a program to eliminate or reduce single use and disposable waste. This pilot program is part of that process. The Recycling Division will then use the information from this pilot program to share it with other restaurants and food establishments and make the transition to eliminate single disposable products.
PILOT RESOURCES & INCENTIVES:
PILOT RESOURCES & INCENTIVES:
- 1 hour Free Training at your location
- Manual with extended training content and resources on practical solutions for the elimination or reduction of single use disposable waste
- List of over 100 vendors and their websites that offer wholesale pricing for earth friendly alternative products
- Marketing materials, such as posters, table top ads and menu inserts to let customers know about your initiative
- Marketing and publicity for your business in the local community
- Ongoing consultation and further resources, tools and support to implement the initiative from reEarth (up to 3 hours)
- Incentives from the City of Carlsbad that include environmentally friendly options for single use items.
TO RECEIVE THE FREE TRAINING:
- At least 1 employee, manager or the owner of the business who makes purchasing decisions must be present for the 1 hour training. We encourage to have at least 25% of your staff present.
- The owner, manager or any other purchasing decision makers in the business must complete the short Pre-Pilot Survey, before the training begins. The Survey is on the registration form.
- The owner, manager or any other decision makers in the business must complete and sign a Pledge of Pilot Participation.
- All training participants must complete a short Training Feedback Survey.
- (Optional) Provide previous 12 months of single-use plastic material purchasing data to reEarth in format provided or similar (if available) – we want to provide for you a comparison of the cost of using single use plastic vs. switching to environmentally friendly options.
